Maycol Romero

Full-stack engineer with a backend focus. Cloud-native systems and distributed architectures.

I design backend services, REST APIs, and event-driven pipelines for an IaaS platform that processes IP data. I focus on reliability, security, observability, and scaling on Kubernetes.

About

I'm a full-stack engineer with a backend focus. I started in frontend engineering with Angular, React, and Vue before moving into full-stack and backend work. That background makes the contracts between systems as important to me as their implementation. I design for the bad day. Does the system still make sense under load? Do its contracts hold? Can the next engineer understand it at 3 a.m.?

In practice, I build Quarkus, Spring Boot, and Go services on Kubernetes. I use clear boundaries, domain-driven design, and observability that explains what is happening instead of merely filling dashboards. I am an iSAQB Certified Professional for Software Architecture at Foundation Level.

Engineering is also a team discipline. I onboard and mentor interns, working students, and new team members. I also lead internal sessions on clean code, architecture, and test-driven development. Architecture that exists in only one person's head is not architecture. It is a single point of failure.

I use AI as part of the engineering loop, not as a substitute for it. I define scope, constraints, and acceptance criteria before writing code. Then I use agentic loops to design, implement, test, self-review, and refine. Human judgment remains responsible for architecture and trade-offs. The goal is faster delivery and safer refactoring without creating a codebase nobody understands.

“Truth can only be found in one place: the code.”
